In Security, Distributed Systems and Cloud Computing research
Fixed Term appointments for 36 months each

The Department of Computing is a leading department of Computer Science among UK Universities. It has consistently been awarded the highest research rating (5*) in Research Assessment Exercises (RAE), coming 2nd in the 2008 RAE, and was rated as "Excellent" in the previous national assessment of teaching quality.
An opportunity has arisen for a Research Assistant (at the pre-doctoral level) and a Research Associate (at the post-doctoral level) to work on the EPSRC-funded project CloudSafetyNet: End-to-End Application Security in the Cloud. The goal of the project is to rethink fundamentally how the next generation of cloud computing infrastructures can be made more secure using information flow control and taint tracking approaches.
The CloudSafetyNet project offers an exciting opportunity for conducting internationally leading and impactful research, which aims to solve real-world security problems in cloud computing. The project will be done in collaboration with partners at the University of Cambridge and the NHS. Within the project, the researchers will be responsible for generating new security models, designing novel cloud computing software systems, and implementing and evaluating experimental software prototypes. They will be expected to publicise their research results at premier security, distributed systems and software systems conferences and journals.
To apply, you will need to have a solid computing or engineering background. The Research Assistant should have a strong interest in the design and implementation of secure large-scale distributed systems, especially in the context of cloud computing. Beyond that, the Research Associate should have experience, including a proven publication track-record, related to the following areas: applied security research, distributed systems research, and/or cloud computing research.
For the Research Assistant position, you will have an excellent Masters degree (or equivalent) in Computing or a related area, and you are expected to register for a PhD degree at Imperial College. For the Research Associate position, you will have a PhD (or equivalent) in security, distributed systems, software systems or a related area. All applicants must be fluent in English.
You will be part of the Large-Scale Distributed Systems (LSDS) research group, based at the South Kensington campus in London. For further information on the group and related projects, see: http://lsds.doc.ic.ac.uk
Informal enquiries related to the two positions should be directed to Dr Peter Pietzuch: <email@example.com>
